Reach for the Rim: The Cost of Staying Small

We often move through life assuming we’ve mastered what we’ve barely scratched the surface of.

We read a headline, skim a page, sit in a sermon, and think we understand the whole mountain when we’ve only seen the trailhead.

But what if the greatest obstacle isn’t what we don’t know… but what we think we know?

The Books We Forgot

The Bible itself alludes to texts that most have never read or even heard of:

• The Book of the Wars of the Lord (Numbers 21:14)

• The Book of Shemaiah the Prophet and The Book of Iddo the Seer (2 Chronicles 12:15)

• The Book of Nathan the Prophet and The Book of Gad the Seer (1 Chronicles 29:29)

• And John 21:25 speaks of countless acts of Jesus that "could not be contained in all the books of the world."

If entire books can go unread and unnoticed, what else are we missing?

The Crab in the Bucket

I’m reminded of The War of Art, where the crab in the bucket mentality is described. If one crab tries to climb out, the others pull it back in. Not because it’s impossible, but because its attempt to escape is an offense to the comfortable.

How many times have you reached for the rim only to feel the tug of others pulling you back?

How many times have you silenced your own questions, thinking you knew enough?

Growth is offensive to the stagnant. That’s why the journey to something greater often feels lonely.

Keep Reaching. Keep Rising.

If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

If you’re comfortable, you’re not growing.

If you’re waiting for everyone to understand you, you’re waiting too long.

This year, I’m pushing forward with a mission to reach for the rim — no matter who tries to pull me back.

That’s why I’m excited to announce that my book is launching later this year. It’s my way of grabbing the edge and pulling myself — and anyone who wants to come with me — out of the bucket and into legacy.

Let’s Grow Together

Have you read any of those lost books of the Bible? What did you discover? Or maybe you’ve been the crab reaching for the rim, breaking away from what’s expected.

Share your journey. Let’s inspire each other to keep climbing.
