They Gave All. And You Carry What They Left Behind

Today is Memorial Day.
Not just a long weekend.
Not just flags and barbecues.
But a day carved into the heart of this nation to honor those who gave their everything.
This day…
This day is for the ones who never made it home.
And tonight, I dedicate this to the ones left behind.
The family members —
Who stood straight when their knees wanted to give.
Who held that folded flag in trembling hands, knowing it was the last gift the country could offer.
Who didn’t just lose a loved one —
but inherited a legacy.
To the spouses who now carry two stories.
To the parents who buried what they once dreamed for.
To the children who grow up with stories in place of hugs.
To the siblings who lost their lifelong shadow.
To the fellow service members who fought beside them,
Who still hear the echoes of their laugh,
Who feel the weight of surviving.
You carry something sacred.
Not just loss —
But honor.
And for that — I see you.
I honor you.
And I thank you.
Because today I woke up free.
Free to speak.
Free to build.
Free to dream.
Free to disagree.
Free to be.
And that freedom?
It isn’t theoretical.
It was bought — at full price — by those who gave all.
And everything I do — every post, every pursuit, every page I write in my upcoming book —
Is because their sacrifice made it possible.
This is not just remembrance.
This is recognition.
That freedom isn’t free.
That some gave all.
And that those they left behind carry a weight the rest of us will never fully understand.
So today, I ask:
→ What name are you remembering?
→ Whose story do you carry?
Let us remember together.
Let us honor them fully
