Break Free from Dead Weight—Cash Out Your Clutter NOW!

This afternoon, during my Real Estate Club Zoom call, a question came to mind: What am I still holding on to that’s holding me back?

When the call ended, I marched to my dresser and opened the old jewelry box that’s traveled with me since high-school hallways and Army barracks. Out spilled big gold hoops, a “Sweet 16” charm, rings, and chains—flashy trophies from another life.

I stuffed everything into a small bag and drove to the nearest pawn shop. My heart pounded. I had no idea what any of it was worth. Handing those memories to the clerk felt like giving away pieces of my teenage self. It stung.

Then the appraiser called me over.

She laid crisp hundred-dollar bills on the glass—one, two, three… all the way to 46.

Watching each bill slap the counter was electric. That’s $4,600 in silent, forgotten value—now in my hands.

As a mom with kids on summer break, that cash is freedom: extra groceries, a weekend adventure, a little breathing room.

Meanwhile, I’d been paying interest on a credit-card balance just to keep jewelry I never wore. Talk about backwards!

I live by one rule: “Operate From Zero.” Every dollar that comes in gets planted into investments—tiny seeds set to grow. Anything that can’t work for me is dead weight.

Tonight proved it. Styles change, missions change, but clutter still charges rent.

Your Turn.

Scan your room, closet, or bank statement.

What sits there sucking up money and/or energy?

Equity locked in a home or rental property—could it be refinanced or redeployed for bigger gains?

Subscriptions, gadgets, or “one-day” projects you can sell or cancel to fuel your next move?

How much interest—cash or stress—are you paying just to stay attached?

Letting go isn’t losing; it’s leveling up.

Ready to turn unused stuff into real growth?
