As many of us gather with loved ones today to celebrate freedom and independence, dozens of families in Kerr County, Texas are living through unimaginable loss.
Ā
In the early hours of what was meant to be a day of joy, a flash flood swept through the Guadalupe River, rising 26 feet in just 45 minutesācatching families in RVs, homes, and even summer camps completely off guard.
Ā
At least 24 lives have been confirmed lost.
Ā
More than 20 young girls remain missing from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp caught directly in the path of the flood.
Ā
RVs were swept away as people slept. Entire roads disappeared. Homes were engulfed in darkness and rising waters.
Ā
Families, who hours earlier looked forward to fireworks and cookouts, are now clinging to prayer and hope for reunion or relief.
Ā
There are no words that can fully express the depth of tragedy, nor the quiet strength of those navigating grief right now.
Ā
In moments like this, may we be reminded of the fragility of life, and the sacredness of the time we are given with those we love.
Ā
Let us lift up in our hearts:
Ā
The families who mourn.
Ā
The children yet to be found.
Ā
The community members rallying in faith.
Ā
And the brave first responders, rescue teams, and the Texas National Guard, who have moved with urgency, courage, and compassion in the face of chaos.
Ā
šļø As we celebrate, let us also pause with reverence.
Let us love with greater intention.
Let us speak kindness with more conviction.
Let us hold our freedom and our families closer than ever before.
Ā
We may not be able to fix the pain.
But we can carry it with themāin prayer, in presence, and in purpose.
Ā
To all affected: you are not forgotten.
You are covered in prayer.
You are surrounded by a nationās quiet, unwavering love.
